때는 1930년. 의도하지 않았던 마피아와의 충돌 이후 택시 운전사인 토미 안젤로는 본의 아니게 조직범죄의 세계로 빠져들게 됩니다. 원래 그는 살리에리 조직에 가담하는 걸 내켜하지 않았지만, 무시하기에는 보상이 너무 컸습니다. 그의 지위가 올라가며 대가는 더욱 커졌지만, 그가 하는 일도 더욱 더러워졌습니다. 결국 토미는 살라리에의 신임을 얻게 되지만, 그가 선택한 삶과의 반목이 더욱 커지는 입지전적인 인물이 되어갑니다.
